Cardinal Parolin Arrived In Minsk WIth Ordinary Flight


In the evening of the March, 12th an official visit began of cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of state of Vatican. The cardinal arrived in Minsk not with a special flight but with a regular one.

At the airport he was welcomed by the Apostolic nuncio in Belarus archbishop Claudio Gugerotti and the ambassador of Belarus by the Holy See Syarhey Aleynik. According to, all Belarusian Catholic bishops also attended the welcoming ceremony: Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, Aleksander Kaszkiewicz, Antoniy Demyanko, Aleh Butkievich, Yury Kasabutsky and Iosif Stanevsky, the Apostolic visitator for Belarusian Greek Catholics Syarhey Gajek and deputee minister of foreign affairs Alyona Kupchyna.

On is arrival the cardinal mentioned to the press that his visit here as a representative of the Holy Father is a sign of recognition of Belarus, Belarusian people and Catholic Church in Belarus on behalf of Vatican and the Pope.

MFA: the visit is important to the relations with Vatican

Alyona Kupchyna expressed an opinion that the cardinal’s visit will play an important role in relations between Belarus and Vatican and in further development of an interconfessional peace.

“Belarus is a country were different confessions coexist in peace. The visit of the Secretary of State – the second person in the hierarchy of Vatican – is a very symbolical move that shows once highlights a peaceful nature of our country and a friendly course of our government in terms of interconfessional dialog”, – stated the deputy head of MFA.
