Catholic Bishops Invited Pope To Minsk


The secretary of state of Pope Francis cardinal Pietro Parolin met with Catholic bishops of Belarus on the 14th of March.

The meeting took place at the curia of Minsk-Mahilyow diocese. According to, all Belarusian bishops and the Apostolic visitator for Greek Catholics of Belarus archmandrite Syarhey Gajek participated in it.

Before beginning the talk with bishops cardinal entered the Virgin Mary archcathedral and talked with the parishioners.

After giving Belarusian hierarchs Pope Farncis’ greetings and best wishes the secretary of state named the main problems faed by Catholic Church: the lack of ferment of Christianity in the modern world, the need to build the unity of the presbyteriate and the inty if bishops with priests, shortage of cathechization and sermon in strengthening the people’s faith, the need of improvement of quality of professional education in Belarusian seminaries.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin told about the Holy Father’s joy caused by the foundation of John Paul II Minsk Academy of Theology.

 Belarusian bishDuring the meeting that went in a fraternal atmosphere Belarusian bishops through cardinal Pietro Parolin invited Pope Francis to come to Belarus with a pastoral visit.

“Your visit is a great joy to us because in your person we see the person of Pope Francis, – stated the Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslawl archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz. – Trough you we join the Pontific. Your visit is a great honour to our country and the Catholic Church in Belarus”.
