A Salesian priest Aliaksnadr Yasheuski has been ordained a bishop suffragan of Minsk-Mahilyou archdiocese and a titular bishop of Furnos Maior on the 27th of June at Minsk archcathedral. He was sent to the Mahilyou region.

Claudio Gugerotti called the entitlement of the new bishop a gift for the Church in Belarus that suffered from persecurions so much. According to him, Aliaksandr Yasheuski was ordained a bishop as a result of the need of pastoral guidance, “for the land of Mahilyou to flourish again in the name of Christ”.

The archbishop also asked Aliaksandr Yasheuski not to tell people taht they must suffer but to give them a consolation that may come only from God.

“The Holy Father Francis trusted you with a great and responsible mission of revival of the glory of the Catholic Church on the land physically and spiritually deformed by Chernobyl”, – said Metropolitan Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz while addressing the new bishop.

The new bishop was also congratulated by the representatives of Greek-Catholic, Orthodox and Lutheran churches.
