Police Looked for a “Cultist Literature” at Homiel Pastor Apartment: a Threat of Criminal Charges
A search was conducted on the 25 June at the apartment of “Transfiguration” church pastor Syarhey Mikalaenka. The search warrant was issued by the head of district police Viktar Apanasenka and attorney deputy Syarhey Zaytsau. The search was conducted by major Syarhey Zhytnikau.
According to the warrant, the police were looking for “cultist literature and materials containing information violating the rights, frredoms and legal interests of citizens or hindering the fulfilling of their public, social and family duties”. Besides, they were looking for documents concerning the activity of an “unregistered organization “the Church of Christ the Salvator””: the charter, members lists, schedules, reports, information about the leaders, financial reports, seals.
There is the Article 193-1 of the Penal Code which provides a punoshment of 2 years of imprisonement for organization or participation in the activities of an unregisteref organization.
The seal of f. Syarhey Mikalaenka, several documents (among them the lease contract) had been withdrawn. Major Zhitnikau’s attention had been drawn to notes made by Mikalaenka during his study at the theological university. Major was interested by the phrase “mortification of the works of the flesh”. The notes were withdrawn.
The search was conducted in the presence of witnesses. The search minute states that their rights and duties had been explained to them, but Mikalaenka says that it had not been done. While talking about the phrase “mortification of the works of the flesh” he mentioned that these words consider the apostle Paul’s letter to Galatians (5:19-21): “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God”.
As KRYNICA.INFO has previously reported, on the 31st of May during the Sunday service which was taking place at the officially rented premises, a riot police squad broke in while shooting the gathering with a video camera.
