Metropolitan Kondrusiewicz: Search for Pastoral Solutions Remains Synod’s Main Problem

Language groups of participating bishops of the Synod on Family in Vatican presented reports on the results of local discussions on 14 October.

As Metropolitan of Minsk and Mahilyou Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz , a participant of the Synod, told , the next step will be development of modern family theology with consideration of issues of modern secular culture, reports.

“The Synod participant have confirmed that the teachings of Catholic Church on family should not be disputed, – Metropolitan Kondrusiewicz tells, – but the search for pastoral solutions is problematic due to the real situation of families”.

Despite the fact that polarly opposite views were expressed at the Synod, especially considering the problem of marriage’s inviolability and possibility of Communion for divorcees, “mercy should be viewed through the prism of Jesus teachings to create a family guidebook”, – Archbishop Kondrusiewicz tells.

“The fathers of the Synod and participants of this bishops world forum noted the necessity of a more profound theological basis for a final document than the Synod’s preliminary documents have”, – the hierarch says.

The Metropolitan also told that special attention in languge groups was paid to pastoral peraparation of young people for the sacrament of marriage because “the problem of modern young people is that they are afraid of commiting an inviolable marriage “forever”. Among the reasons are the lack of divorces in the Church, harsh ecnomical conditions in several countries and the existing secular culture”.
